Dr. Melissa Womble, PhD

Dr. Melissa Womble is a highly skilled and experienced neuropsychologist, specializing in sports concussion management. Her impressive portfolio includes heading the Inova Sports Medicine Concussion Program and co-directing the esteemed Inova Concussion Program.
After successfully completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Sports Medicine Concussion Program, Dr. Womble joined Inova Medical Group with the aim of delivering outstanding treatment to patients, regardless of age and ability, who have suffered concussions due to sports activities or are looking for performance enhancement services.
Having had a successful career as a high school track athlete, Dr. Womble furthered her passion for competitive sports at the University of South Alabama (USA) where she competed in NCAA Division I cross country and track while earning her Bachelor's degree in psychology. Afterwards, USA granted her both Master’s and Doctoral degrees—in Applied Psychology and Combined-Integrated Clinical Counselling Psychology respectively.
During her PhD studies, Dr. Womble not only specialized in providing sports enhancement therapy for collegiate athletes but also designed a concussion management program specifically tailored to the needs of both high school and college students alike. She went on to take a pre-doctoral internship at Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit MI where she deepened her knowledge regarding traumatic brain injuries before moving onto Pittsburgh for advanced fellowship training.
Dr. Womble's impressive body of work spans multiple national conferences and a number of peer-reviewed journals.
Hailing from Northern Virginia, she lives with her husband and son alongside their two furry friends. When not busy, she enjoys running outdoors, hiking through nature trails, visiting new places and creating delicious meals in the kitchen.
